Education and training will be central to the ACMD’s activities to deliver the urgently needed next generation of skilled workers for the medical technology (medtech) industry.
We will provide Australia’s future and current clinical, nursing, allied health and biomedical engineering with the knowledge and skills to understand and solve major health problems.
The ACMD will house both the University of Melbourne’s Clinical School and a research school of nursing and host biomedical engineering PhD students working with clinicians and scientists to address unmet clinical needs.
A practical training environment will also be provided at the ACMD to prepare technical and engineering students for careers in medtech, ranging from vocational education to undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
The education spaces will incorporate multiple seminar and tutorial rooms, a clinical simulation laboratory, and a large lecture theatre extending over two levels.
University of Melbourne
The ACMD will be the home of the St Vincent’s Clinical School.
This dedicated teaching facility will be embedded within the ACMD to nurture Australia’s future medical and biomedical engineering research leaders.
It will give students the knowledge and skills to understand and solve major health problems in a cross-disciplinary, project-driven environment.
Through the MD (Doctor of Medicine) program, the Clinical School will produce outstanding clinicians and clinician-researchers. Together with the ACMD network, medical students will be able to complete the newly created MD-Masters Bio-Engineering program.
Skills and Devices Hub
The ACMD will house the offices of the Victorian Medtech Skills and Devices Hub (VMH). This Hub will provide a central point for education providers, industry collaborators, and government partners to work together to accelerate Victoria’s medical technology development ecosystem.
The VMH will bring together the skills, expertise, and facilities needed to grow Victoria’s medtech skills and capabilities through key initiatives including:
- The ACMD Navigator, a centralised medtech skills and device engagement office for Victoria
- The ACMD Academy, providing targeted educational offerings and internships to help develop future-ready talent for the medtech industry
