Professor Cook is:

The Sir John Eccles Chair of Medicine and Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Melbourne
Director of Clinical Neurosciences at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne
An internationally recognised neurologist and translational leader
Appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2023 for distinguished service to neurological medicine and epilepsy research

Mark has led multiple first-in-human studies of implantable systems for seizure prediction and intracranial drug delivery – work that culminated in the Australian med-tech success story Epiminder, which recently completed a successful IPO following the development of a world-first FDA-authorised neural implant for epilepsy.

This session will explore what it truly takes to move deep science through clinical validation, regulation, capital and scale – from the perspective of someone who has built it end-to-end.
