The Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery (ACMD) has reached practical completion, in readiness to opening its doors in November 2025. This is Australia’s newest collaborative biomedical engineering hub, designed to accelerate research, innovation and commercialisation in MedTech, biotech and digital health.
Co-located at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, the new 11-storey ACMD building is a world-class space where clinicians, researchers, engineers and industry leaders will come together to solve the most pressing healthcare challenges of our time.
This unique partnership between the University of Melbourne, Australian Catholic University, the Bionics Institute, RMIT University, St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, St Vincent’s Institute of Medical Research and Swinburne University of Technology reflects a shared vision: to bridge the gap between discovery and delivery through collaboration, education and translational research.
Key features of the ACMD include:
- Advanced 3D printing and prototyping labs
- A human kinetics lab and insulated rooms for sensory technology research and development
- A custom-designed clinical simulation laboratory
- A large auditorium and event space
- Vertical greening and a striking molecular-inspired façade
As one of ACMD’s key university partners, the University of Melbourne is proud to support this next chapter in health innovation.
